What causes lung disease and how to prevent it?
What causes lung diseases and how can we prevent them? Many common lung conditions, such as COPD (chronic obstructive respiratory disease), are preventable. People who smoke, are exposed to significant air pollution (outdoor and indoor), or in certain occupations (inhaling dusts and fumes) are at very high risk of developing lung disease. Reducing these exposures can very significantly reduce the risk.
Some people have a genetic predisposition to getting lung disease. While we cannot change our genes, someone who has many cases of lung disease in the family may know they are potentially at risk themselves. By attending regular medical checkups and reducing noxious environmental exposures, they can also reduce their risk. They may also be able to catch any lung disease early.

Blood clots in the legs - recognize the signs and risk
Переглядів 9302 місяці тому
What are the risk factors and signs of blood clots in the legs? Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a condition in which blood clots may form in the deeper veins in the legs or pelvis. One potentially dangerous complication is when part of a blood clot detaches and travels up through the veins into the lung vessels, causing a Pulmonary Embolism. The risk factors for blood clots include having had the...
Is COPD hereditary? Is there a genetic predisposition?
Переглядів 1972 місяці тому
Could COPD be hereditary? Would other family members be at a higher risk? Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a combination of chronic bronchitis and emphysema. For emphysema specifically, there is one situation where genetics plays a significant role - alpha 1 antitrypsin (A1AT) deficiency. People who are low in this A1AT protein generally have an abnormal gene causing this, so it is a sp...
Always check your inhaler technique!
Переглядів 2623 місяці тому
For optimal benefits with inhalers for treating airways conditions such as asthma or COPD, it is very important to constantly check your inhaler technique. A lot of people struggle to use their inhaler correctly. The best way to get direct feedback is to bring your inhalers to consultations and to have a quick discussion about how you are using them with your doctor, nurse or other healthcare p...
What is COPD? Clearly explained for patients and carers
Переглядів 1,8 тис.4 місяці тому
What is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)? In this video I explain it in a simple way. COPD is a very common lung condition. The main symptoms are excessive breathlessness on exertion and a productive cough (clearing sputum). COPD is a combination of two other conditions: emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Emphysema means that the lung tissue thins out and there is less surface area f...
Potential side effects of inhalers?
Переглядів 9 тис.4 місяці тому
Overall, inhalers are very safe treatments. However, some people can have side effects. Please discuss with your healthcare team if you are having any issues. The medication found in inhalers is broadly divided into bronchodilators (which "open up" the airways) and inhaled corticosteroids (anti-inflammatory medication). Bronchodilators can be either beta 2 agonists (e.g. salbutamol, formoterol,...
Should you be worried about "steroids" in inhalers?
Переглядів 1,9 тис.5 місяців тому
This is a comment about using inhalers with corticosteroid medication, which is normally required generally in the treatment of asthma. By using inhalers correctly and having good asthma control, we may actually reduce the need to use "steroid" tablets such as prednisolone, which contain a much higher dose than inhalers. The dose of corticosteroids contained in inhalers is extremely low, but it...
Exercise after pneumonia?
Переглядів 2 тис.5 місяців тому
Is it OK to exercise when recovering from an episode of pneumonia or chest infection? In most cases this is not a problem and may actually help the recovery process. Im going absolutely insane I’ve been having bodily pain in my torso for a week now and this morning I woke up with a bloody nose I did sleep with the fan on my face so I think it could’ve been that but the scare was enough for me to go to urgent care, I got checked out and they said it s most likely muscular. But me being human im very scared still as I’d hate to wait to long and then something bad that’s to late to solve happens. Could I possibly get some help from someone to ease my mind I really have been anxious. Some key notes are I smoked weed for around a year or two no more than that. I stopped at the start of the week it’s been around 8 days now, I do a lot of workout and stopped to se did it was muscular. The pain fades and comes back I have had poor stool quality. I’m not really falling under many symptoms check except for the pains and fatigue but I smoked weed so I could be going through withdrawal if i can talk to someone it would really help

Loved your video, thank you. Hope you can help me, I was diagnosed a few years ago and hospitalized as I could not see, walk and breath. I got prednisolon treatment and I am off the medication for over a year. I am struggling with severe fatigue, so bad that I have to squeeze my arm while driving from work not to fall asleep, also I have so much pain in my leg muscles and knees. I take supplements such as B complex, multivitamin, ginger+turmeric, and tryptophan L. In the hospital in Denmark they just tell me to take more painkillers. I try to eat lots of greens, cabbage, eggs, fish, red meat. And I have now started seeing a psychologist because I want to get some tools to handle the anxiety, stress, and mentally try to get more energy. I do 30 mins. walks almost every day and I take cold baths at the beach (It is cold in Denmark most of the year)I have some small pimples on my body but other than that, the only thing is fatigue and pain in my legs. Please do you have any advice for me?
